Flows that think along

pronubes Version 1.5

More logic, less effort, higher security

In production, things rarely go exactly to plan. Systems drop out briefly, data changes only occasionally, and the same process is maintained slightly differently in ten places. That costs time, creates unnecessary data volumes and makes your IT/OT landscape harder to manage.

Version 1.4 brought more transparency with AuditLog and REST Tunneling. pronubes 1.5 takes the next step: your data flows now make their own decisions, handle errors in a controlled way and transmit only what is really relevant.

pronubes Release 1.5: conditions, functions, try/catch and Change Gate

The logic update

Intelligence directly in the data flow

At the heart of 1.5 are four new building blocks. They move logic to where it belongs: into the data flow itself rather than into additional scripts or workarounds.

Conditions (IF): one flow instead of manyA single flow branches depending on the situation. That is clearer and easier to follow, even for colleagues who did not build the flow themselves.
Functions (FX): build once, use everywhereRecurring processes are defined once centrally and used in any number of flows. A flow only uses the new version once you deliberately republish it.
Error handling (Try/Catch): report instead of abortIf a target system is briefly unreachable, the flow detects the error, can retry the operation automatically and reports the problem in a targeted way.
Change Gate: only transmit what changesData is only passed on when a relevant change occurs. You decide what counts as relevant. This relieves databases, networks and cloud storage and reduces costs.
✦ Less maintenance effort, more stable processes, smaller data volumes

Variables

Order, security and key figures at the push of a button

As projects grow, so does the number of variables. Version 1.5 keeps this manageable.

Clear structureVariables can be organized in folders, for example by plant or topic. Even with several hundred variables you keep the overview.
Protected credentialsPasswords and API keys are stored encrypted and are never visible in plain text anywhere in the interface.
Key figures instead of data floodspronubes condenses measured values on its own into key figures such as average, minimum, maximum or sum per period. Your database receives meaningful values instead of thousands of individual measurements.
Scalable flowsA single flow can now serve many similar plants, instead of configuring a separate flow for each one.
✦ An important building block for your security policies

Central certificate management

Consistent security standards across all sites

Secure OPC UA connections need certificates, and until now they had to be maintained separately at every installation. From 1.5, your IT can issue, renew and revoke them for all installations via a central server (OPC UA GDS).

Issue, renew and revoke centrallyYour IT keeps full control and has less manual effort.
Automatic adoptionpronubes Edge picks up the changes automatically.
Continued operation on outageIf the central server fails, pronubes Edge keeps working with the last known certificates.

More highlights

Less preparation, more targeted use of resources

Besides the major topics, 1.5 includes several features that noticeably ease day-to-day work.

Database logging without preparationpronubes Edge creates tables in common databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, SAP HANA, MySQL or PostgreSQL on its own and keeps them up to date. A separate database setup is no longer needed.
Use resources deliberatelyUnneeded connections can be shut down or started only on demand. This reduces unnecessary load, and inactive connections are not counted for licensing.
Automatic logoutSessions can end after inactivity or after a fixed duration, an added layer of security especially at shared workstations in production.

More transparency and stability in operation

A clear focus on day-to-day operations

Besides the new features, there was a clear focus on day-to-day operations.

Event logWhether a pronubes Edge goes online or offline can now be traced directly in the event log.
License managementLicense management and the license overview have been improved.
Architecture, zones and remote maintenanceNumerous improvements make the architecture view, zone overviews and remote maintenance more robust.
.NET 10The move to the current technology base .NET 10 provides noticeably more stability.

Security: proactively up to date

Security is part of the design

With 1.5 we updated several third-party components for which security advisories (CVEs) have been published. Our review shows that pronubes Edge in its default configuration is not practically affected by any of these vulnerabilities. We close them consistently anyway, because for us security is not an afterthought but part of the design.

Update with a safety net

What changes with the update – and what does not

In short: your existing installations keep running as before after the update. New behavior applies where you switch it on. Two exceptions are worth a look: the service works faster under load, and deleted Edge instances lose remote access immediately.

No new forced logoutsAutomatic logout is switched off by default. You decide whether it applies and how strict it is. Running sessions are left untouched, and new times apply from the next login.
Order without reworkOlder projects keep running unchanged. You can introduce the new folder structure for variables step by step, when it suits you.
Production flows stay stableA changed function or branch takes effect only when you deliberately republish the calling flow. Nothing changes unnoticed in production.
More throughput under loadThe service is now tuned for higher throughput. The price is slightly more memory, which adapts to the load thanks to .NET 10. Your IT team can switch back to the earlier behavior if needed.
Connectors behave as usualExisting connector instances keep running in “Always On” mode. You use the new “Auto” and “Deactivated” modes only where you want them.
Cleanly wrapped upWhen an Edge instance is deleted, all active Remote Management sessions to it end immediately. No open access is left behind.

FAQs

What is new in pronubes 1.5?

At its core are four building blocks for logic in the data flow: conditions (IF), functions (FX), error handling (Try/Catch) and the Change Gate. In addition there are a folder structure for variables, protected credentials, key figures instead of raw data and scalable flows.

What are conditions (IF) used for in a flow?

A single flow can branch differently depending on the situation instead of needing a separate flow for every case. This keeps flows clearer and easier for colleagues to follow.

Do flows change automatically when a function (FX) is modified?

No. A flow only uses the new version of a function once you deliberately republish it. This keeps it clear which version is running in production.

What happens if a target system is briefly unavailable?

With error handling, the flow detects the error, can retry the operation automatically and reports the problem in a targeted way instead of simply aborting.

What does the Change Gate do?

Data is only passed on when a relevant change occurs. You define what counts as relevant. This relieves databases, networks and cloud storage and lowers costs.
